Process
- Nominations may only be made by an active member of the ACF – First State Chefs Association in good standings.
- Nominator must submit a written nomination on his or her reasons that they are nominating the candidate and follow the set criteria.
- Candidate must be an ACF – First State Chefs Association member in good standing.
- Candidate must currently hold or have held the position of Executive Chef, Sous Chef, Chef, Pastry Chef, Chef Instructor, or Culinary Administrator.
- Candidate may not have won the Chef of the Year honor in the past three years.
- Attend 7 out of 10 monthly Chapter meetings (November thru Sept.)
Nomination Criteria – Candidate must meet (5) of the following to be considered for nomination:
- Be certified by the ACF at any level to include NICA certification and Pro Chef I, II, and III
- Participation on a committee or appointed task on the chapter level
- Participation in activities on a local chapter level as an elected officer or active committee chair
- Participation in charitable, civic, and educational chapter affairs (minimum of two activities))
- Host an open chapter monthly meeting
- Attend a regional conference, National Conference, or regional forum
- Member of an ACF national committee
- Conducted documented educational demonstration for the chapter (minimum of 1 hour segment)
- Sign up five new members
- Have performed documented public service to the community
- Have an ACF apprentice or have mentored a junior member formally and documented
- Participated in an ACF sanctioned Culinary Competition
- Participate in a Career day presentation at the high school or college level
- Receive a major award from the ACF or allied association
Elections of Candidates
- If but one (1) candidate is nominated, after approval of past Chefs of the Year in good standing, motion shall be made for acceptance by acclamation.
- In the event more than one candidate is nominated and fulfills the nomination criteria, the majority will determine the award winner from all active membership in good standings. The ballot will be closed. (1 vote per active member and ½ vote for Junior/Student Culinarians
- All nominations must be submitted to the Secretary no later than October 15 of each year
- Upon approval of the nomination (verification of criteria), the nominees must provide the Secretary with a Bio no later than November 1 of the same year
